Each department has the option to alter the requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major
works in your department.
- Honors thesis may be based on library research or on analysis of a
data set obtained either through primary research or from research conducted
by a professor.
The latter is the more common type of thesis in Anthropology.
The thesis length is variable, but they range from 30 - 100 pages of text,
usually
accompanied by maps, tables and charts, and sometimes data appendices.
- The course you register for, for Honors Thesis credit, is ANT4914r.
- You must have six thesis hours—that is the minimum and maximum.
- All six of these thesis hours may be used to satisfy the 30 hour major
requirement.
- Grading of thesis hours before completion is up to the discretion of
the Thesis Director.
- There are no completion requirements beyond a successfully defended thesis.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in
Anthropology well in advance. Students should meet with Dr. Joseph Hellweg to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
