Each department has the option to alter the
requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in
effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major
works in your department.
- Two project options are available to the student in Honors in the Major
in Dance: (1) the Honors project may be presented as a thesis in dance history
and criticism, or (2) as a studio project. Studio projects must be accompanied
by a project report.
- The course you register for, for Honors Thesis credit, is DAN4900r,
Honors Work in Dance.
- Students must complete their project in 6 semester hours of thesis credit.
- Grading of work in progress is up to the discretion of the Thesis Director.
- There is a separate application process for the Dance department. Students
must be approved through Dance before they can pursue Honors in the Major
through the Honors Office.
- In addition to the Honors Project, honors students in Dance must complete
three Honors credit hours in Dance History (the section designated by the
Liaison). A contract must be signed by the student and instructor of the
history
course.
- The student must also complete an assignment in dance production. The
dance production assignment is to be arranged with a faculty member and a
contract
must be signed by the student and the faculty member overseeing the assignment.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in
Dance well in advance. Students should meet with Professor Tricia
Young to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
