Each department has the option to alter the
requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in
effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major
works in your department.
- The thesis is expected to be a research-oriented paper investigating
a topic of critical importance to the hospitality and tourism industry. The
paper should
be approximately fifty pages in length, and follow accepted manuscript
style. Results of the research should be of quality to be forwarded to a
hospitality
and tourism publication.
- The course you register for, for Honors Thesis credit, is HFT4970r,
Honors Thesis in Hospitality.
- Honors in the Major students will complete six hours of Honors thesis
credit to graduate With Honors.
- Three of these hours are applicable to the major, to replace either an
elective or required course— this will be determined in consultation with
the Thesis Director and the Director of the Dedman School of Hospitality.
- Work in progress is assigned an 'I' (Incomplete), until the finished
paper is approved.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in
Hospitality as early as possible. Students should meet with Professor Jane Ohlin to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
