Each department has the option to alter the
requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in
effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major
works in your department.
- The thesis is regularly an essay of some length (25 pages minimum with
no maximum set) on a topic that might be generated by work taken in regular
courses
but which is expected to go beyond the boundaries of any specific course.
Thus the thesis would ordinarily be comparative in nature but other formats
are possible.
- The course you register for, for Honors Thesis credit,
is HUM4907r,
Honors Work.
- Honors in the Major students will complete six hours of Honors thesis
credit to graduate With Honors.
- All six hours are applicable toward major requirements.
- Work in progress is assigned a grade based on the submission of preliminary
drafts of sections of the thesis or project.
- The Humanities program encourages Honors work that crosses disciplinary
boundaries.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in
Humanities as early as possible. Students should meet with Dr. Kathyrn Stoddard to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
