Each department has the option to alter the requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major works in the Management Information Systems (MIS) Department.
- The honors program involves crafting an honors thesis under the guidance of a Thesis Director and two other MIS faculty. The thesis is expected to be a research-oriented paper investigating a topic of critical importance to managers of information systems, or to the information systems industry in general. The paper should be approximately thirty pages of text, excluding figures, tables, and references, and following accepted manuscript style. Results of the research should be of a quality that could be presented at a major academic conference, such as the Association of Information Systems Conference, the Academy of Management Conference or the Southern Association for Information Systems Conference, or submitted for publication consideration to a refereed academic journal.
- The course you register for is ISM4970r, Honors Thesis.
- Honors in the Major students will complete six hours of honors thesis credit to graduate with Honors in Management Information Systems.
- Three of these hours are applicable to the major, to replace either an elective or required course—this will be determined in consultation with the Thesis Director and the Chair of the Management Information Systems Department.
- Work in progress is assigned an 'I' (Incomplete), until the finished paper is approved.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in Management Information Systems as early as possible, but after admission to the College of Business. Students should meet with the department Chair to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
- Interested students should contact the Honors Thesis coordinator for the Management Information Systems Department, Dr. David Paradice.
