Each department has the option to alter the
requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in
effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major works in the Management Department.
- The honors program involves crafting an honors thesis under the guidance of a Thesis Director and two other faculty members (one from Management; one from outside of Management). The thesis is expected to be a research-oriented paper investigating a topic of critical importance to managers. The paper should be approximately thirty pages of text, excluding figures, tables, and references, and following accepted manuscript style. Results of the research should be of a quality that could be presented at a major academic conference, such as the Academy of Management Conference or the Southern Management Conference, or submitted for publication consideration to a refereed academic journal.
- The student must attain an overall GPA of 3.60 or above in order to be able to register for Honors Thesis credit. The GPA must be maintained throughout the Honors Thesis project.
- The course you register for is MAN4970r, Honors Thesis in Management.
- Honors in the Major students will complete six hours of honors thesis credit to graduate with Honors in Management.
- Three of these hours are applicable to the major, to replace either an elective or required course—this will be determined in consultation with the Thesis Director and the Chairman of the Management Department.
- Work in progress is assigned an 'I' (Incomplete), until the finished paper is approved.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in Management as early as possible, but after admission to the College of Business. Students should meet with Professor Bruce T. Lamont to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
