Each department has the option to alter the
requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in
effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major
works in your department.
- Honors in the Major in Sociology involves a special research project
on a selected topic, not previously completed in other major coursework.
- The course you register for, for Honors Thesis credit, is SYA4931r,
Honors Work in Sociology.
- Students take six hours of Honors Thesis credit, typically over two
semesters, to graduate With Honors.
- These hours can count toward major requirements. Typically, however,
they are completed above and beyond other major requirements.
- Grades for work in progress are assigned at the discretion of the Thesis Director, usually based on thoroughness of project design and literature
review.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in
Sociology well in advance. Students should meet with Professor Graham
Kinloch to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
