Each department has the option to alter the
requirements for Honors in the Major, as long as the stated minimums remain in
effect.
Below, you will find the things you need to know about how Honors in the Major works in your department.
- The Honors thesis is around fifty pages, and is essentially a scholarly
paper, one that demonstrates creative thinking and an ability to do significant
research.
In addition to scholarly papers, the Department of Modern Languages also
accepts translation of significant value as an Honors Thesis project. These
projects
are sometimes shorter (20-30 pages) accompanied by an essay on justifying
the translation and discussing problems of translation.
- The course you register for, for Honors Thesis credit, is SPN4935r,
HonorsThesis.
- Honors in the Major students will complete six hours of Honors thesis
credit to graduate With Honors.
- Up to three of these thesis hours will apply toward major requirements.
- The assumption is that the scope of the project and timeline are clear
and realistic, and that a grade will be assigned at the end of each semester.
However, in cases of emergency or when the project takes an unexpected turn,
then an 'I' (Incomplete) can be assigned for work in progress.
- Students are encouraged to make plans for Honors in the Major work in
Spanish as early as possible. Students should meet with Dr. Roberto Fernandez to discuss the program at their earliest convenience.
